Events in the Espace Killy 2015/16

We are lucky have one of the most proactive ski resort councils in the Alps. Renowned for sporting events and music a like, here is your heads up on what is on this winter.

November & December

The Tignes Glacier opens on the 3rd October and the resort will slowly open more lifts depending on snowfall. The majority of the lifts are set to be open for the 28th November. Which is when this year things are getting kicked off with the Winter Corporate Games, which see over 500 participants show off their sporting values of team spirit (28-29 Nov). Tignes Les Brevieres’ lifts will be open on the 12th December at the latest.

Due to our high altitude and snowsure resort, Tignes will be the first stop for the Ultimate Test Tour (05-06 Dec), which is the exhibition for artisans of skiing and safety equipment that brings together all the freeride world.

Val d’Isere will play host to the Criterium de la Premiere Neige again with World Cup Downhill & Giant Slalom Races (11-13 Dec Men / 17-19 Dec Women). They are celebrating 60 years of this event this year so it is sure to be a big one. Catch it on Eurosport if you aren’t in town!

Christmas events aren’t published until that week but in previous years there has been torchlight descents, street parades and markets with free vin chaud, a carol concert outside the Maison de Tignes and a rather theatrical visit from Father Christmas.  Christmas Mass is held in the church opposite our chalet. (24 Dec)

Everyone’s favourite high altitude music concert is back for this New Year. Situated outside the Maison de Tignes hundreds of people come out of the bars and restaurants to count in the new year together. When the hand strikes midnight be sure to be in awe of a pretty intense firework display. DJs are yet to be announced by host radio station RTL2.

January & February

Red Bull Linecatcher, the massive freeski meets freeride backcountry one-of-a-kind event is back in the French Alps for another year and this time it’s coming to Tignes in January (16-22 Jan). The crème de la crème of the worlds best skiers will be competing and only choosing their winning line on the hike up. Hosted somewhere on the border of the Les Arcs ski area, if you are staying with us this week it will be a must to head to the designated competition area to watch this gnarly competition.

Tignes is hosting the Disabled Alpine Skiing World Cup. 12 nations with 90 athletes will race for the IPC World Cup title. This event showcases the true awe-inspiring determination of the human spirit. An event not to be missed and definitely cheer on to! (25-29 Jan)

Frostgun International is descending on the Espace Killy (16-18 Feb) with the main feature event, a custom built kicker, in the centre of Val d’Isère. Some of the world’s best freestyle skiers and snowboarders take on the kicker in a Big air and a 13m hip join the “Frostgun Street Fighter” rail jam session and showcase their biggest tricks from the best slopestyle athletes.

March & April

SFR Freestyle Tour(07-10 Mar) is back. This event is currently the largest freestyle ski competition in Europe and offers four major events in the international calendar in the two new Olympic disciplines: halfpipe and slopestyle. At the start of March the best freestylers on the planet will be in Tignes to compete in our epic superpipe and snowpark, lovingly groomed and maintained especially for this event. Make sure you walk around and try and grab some goodies at the SFR pop up event village which is based at the bottom of the Grand Motte funicular in Val Claret.

A week long European Snow Pride celebration takes place in mid-March (12-19 Mar). Expect a film festival, unmissable giant pool party, internationally famous artists, DJs, giant parties, skiing events and this year Tignes are putting on their first ever Gay Pride Parade in a ski resort (17 Mar). Bring your bright clothes this week and turn the slopes into a rainbow!

Ascending up here to upmost of the Alps, the Francofolies Music Festival  (11-13 Apr) is usually celebrated in La Rochelle on the Bay of Biscay, South-West France. Featuring the best of French music with 18 artists performing over three days on stages and the pistes! The Francofolies team are kicking off the Summer Music Festival with a bang in our backyard!

As with anything, this schedule is subject to change and we will be on top to give you the latest news for the events.
